The Bordeaux area is one of the best gastronomic places in France. It is known all over the
world for its prestigious wines, but it also offers lots of culinary specialties.
For example, you can start by tasting Saint Emilion’s famous « macarons » ; they are made of
almonds and fresh egg whites. The recipe dates from the 17th century and has not changed
since.
Then you can have lunch in Bordeaux and choose a specialty, like the « Pauillac lamb » which
is often served with green beans, or the « Bazas beef » served with mushrooms and a sauce
with shallots and red wine.
In the afternoon, you can try a « cannelé », the famous rum and vanilla little cake.
Then, you can have a few oysters from the Arcachon bay with a squeeze of lemon and a
glass of Entre-deux-mers.
Finally, for dinner, you can taste one of the most original dishes of the region, the « lamproie
bordelaise ». For the recipe, the blood of the fish is mixed with red wine and its flesh is cut in
slices and simmers in this sauce for two hours….
Bordeaux provides so many restaurants (from very fancy places to family bistrots) that you
won’t have any problem finding one to suit your tastes and pocketbook ! Bon appétit !
